California Central Coast Gravel

Tours offered from May, June, September, October

North San Luis Obispo County—known as California’s “other” wine region—is a cycling hidden gem. Join Echelon Pro Cycling Tours for a mixed-surface (aka “Groad”) riding adventure by day and luxury wine country living by night.

Experience for yourself why New York Times rated the region as #6 on its “52 Places to Go in 2020” List!

(If you don’t know where Paso Robles is, that’s ok. We are quietly tucked in California’s central coast half way between Los Angeles & San Francisco.)

Pricing varies due to time of year, accommodation availability and weekday vs weekend tours.

The important thing is to make a different world, to make a world that is not now. A real world, a genuine world, but one that allows myth to live. The myth is everything.
— Sergio Leone, Italian Filmmaker

Riding in Paso Robles and other parts of north San Luis Obispo county, it’s easy to imagine yourself lost in your own spaghetti western. Hidden, mixed-surface backroads ribbon their way over undulating hills and through vast vineyards for endless memorable miles. Bring your gravel bike and experience this stunning region with an insider perspective.

We are planning several days of great riding—with nearly 160 - 180 miles and 15k’ climbing (give or take some gritty suffering)—that will take you from gravel to asphalt and back to gravel again.

This group is limited to 10 riders for the ultimate Gravel experience. Our local coach and guides have a week of riding designed to build your mixed-surface cycling strength. Our queen course is a legitimate test of skill and endurance, and this week will send you home exhausted and smiling.

The courses in Paso Robles are amazing. Feels like riding back home in Italy.

Day 1

Arrive and settle into your weekend home away from home. If you have shipped your bike in advance, it will be ready for you to take it on a solo spin to make sure its ready for the days ahead. Once you are settled, head out for dinner on your own to one of our favorite recommended local spots. Tomorrow, the team festivities begin.

Day 2

Our first official team ride is a big one. We head into the backcountry for a combination of dirt and asphalt riding. You will get stunning ocean vistas and adventure cycling through moody oak forests. We will end our ride at one of our favorite local wineries for a farm-to-table lunch, before transporting back into Paso Robles for a couple hours of relaxing recovery.

Day 3

Today’s course is north county’s version of the the Strade Bianche. It’s a collection of dirt and asphalt segments through wine country farm roads. We even hit a bit of single-track climbing, which will get you ready for tomorrow’s ride. Our course ends at another special winery for a hearty lunch and wine tasting. Then, it’s a short transfer back to the hotel for more relaxing before dinner.

Day 4

Things get a little more epic today. After an early breakfast, we transport to our starting point for a dirt tour of Hi Mountain and the Pozo Valley region. Some of this ride can include hefty climbs and a bit of single-track. Support vehicles will meet at designated points.

Day 5

For those who have the legs and the time, we can do a morning spin to dust things up one more time before departing exhausted, but satisfied.
